I See The Moon

"Have you ever seen the moon?" She asked.
With a playful smile, I replied, "yes of course."
"Have you ever seen the moon in it´s full brilliance?"
My face answered quickly again, "yes of course."
"Have you ever seen the moon so close,
that it changed the way you felt inside?"

Tonight was a full moon.
She brought out her strange device
Setting it down as if it were nothing
Yet with patient hands,
she searched the sky.
At last she found it.
She looked
She smiled
As if greeting an old friend.

"Your turn", she said
Fixing the lens in place
So that I could see what she had seen.
I leaned forward,
Looking through the circle of glass
And there it was
A celestial body
Silent, ancient, and luminous.

I see the moon,
not as on other nights
I see the moon,
Enlarged, impossibly close.
I see the moon,
Like the ones painted in books of old
Yet alive
Breathing through the drifting clouds.
That tried in vain to veil it´s brilliance
I see the moon
And it was beautiful !
